In 2011, California State University, Fresno celebrated its 100th year. A visual identity system was designed to mark this momentous occasion. The color palette for the logo complimented the main colors of the university: cardinal red, blue and gold. While the Centennial’s tagline “A Century of Excellence” balanced California State University, Fresno within its circular seal. The middle of the logo gave tribute to the 100 years and the University’s year of establishment.
The Centennial logo was incorporated into the University’s branding guidelines to ensure proper use. Logo placement, subcategory logos for college or department purposes, and color alternatives for embroidery and screen-printing were a part of the more detailed visual identity system. This visual identity system was implemented across the web, print collateral, special events and product design. All of these graphics were designed while employed at California State University, Fresno.
The Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at Fresno State bottled a wine in tribute to the University’s Centennial. The 2009 vintage Bordeaux-style wine blends Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. The Centennial Cuvee was a special release because of its unique blend and limited availability – only 300 cases were produced, a dozen 750 ml bottles per case.
